Beginning in June 2022, DOOM SPA CITY WEST will take place at the center of Ernst-Reuter-Platz. Exhibitions, events and a campus will span over several seasons.
Ernst-Reuter-Platz is beautiful and indigent.
Dysfunctional.
Drafty and permeable.
An inadvertently successful, empty space where Berlin is completely itself.
Until 1953 the square was called Am Knie (on the knee).
With fountains, water features, ensembles of benches, concrete and pansies on wide open space, an example of anti-monumental design of public space was set for the post-war era under its new name.
In summer, until the 2000s, the Love Parade moved from here in the direction of the Brandenburg Gate.
At all times of day and night, the central island is orbited by traffic and can only be reached by pedestrians via the subway station.
DOOM SPA warmly welcomes all those who make the journey to the middle of the Ernst-Reuter-Platz!
We will bring art to the stage and offer hospitality.
The first exhibition is about flexibilities.
DOOM SPA CITY WEST findet ab Juni 2022 auf der Mittelinsel des Ernst-Reuter-Platzes statt. Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und ein Campus werden sich über mehrere Jahreszeiten erstrecken.
Der Ernst-Reuter-Platz ist schön und bedürftig.
Dysfunktional.
Zugig und durchlässig.
Eine unbeabsichtigt gelungene Leerstelle, an der Berlin ganz bei sich ist.
Bis 1953 hieß der Platz Am Knie.
Mit Brunnen, Wasserspielen, Ensembles von Sitzbänken, Beton und Stiefmütterchen auf einer weiten Freifläche wurde unter seinem neuen Namen ein Exempel der antimonumentalen Gestaltung öffentlicher Plätze für die Nachkriegszeit statuiert.
Von hier aus zog bis in die 2000er Jahre die Love-Parade im Sommer Richtung Brandenburger Tor.
Die Mittelinsel ist zu jeder Tages- und Nachtzeit von Autoverkehr umfahren und für
Fußgänger:innen nur unterirdisch über die U-Bahn-Station zu erreichen.
DOOM SPA heißt alle, die es auf die Mitte des Ernst-Reuter-Platzes schaffen, herzlich willkommen!
Wir werden Kunst zur Aufführung bringen und Bewirtung anbieten.
In der ersten Ausstellung geht es um Flexibilitäten.
